The UK and Scottish Government have made it clear that we should stay at home and only leave for specific purposes. They’ve also made it clear that where people can work from home, they should. Following government advice, we have closed our office and we’re now working from home. That means we’re here and ready to help!
What does that mean for our clients?
The biggest effect of our working from home is that, unless there are exceptional circumstances, we can’t meet you face to face. However, we’re here and ready to help and still able to provide a wide range of services. There are challenges where we have to rely on third parties like the Registers of Scotland and the Scottish Courts. Both are operating on a very limited basis and completing property purchases has been very challenging because the Registers of Scotland closed the applications registers suddenly and without notice! Fortunately, a procedure has been put in place to allow very urgent purchase transactions to settle where the date of entry can’t be changed.
Property sales and purchases
As you might expect, new properties can’t be brought onto the market because of the lockdown. This is mainly because surveyors who carry out the Home Reports will not visit properties to prepare these. Also, social distancing prevents viewers visiting properties. Because of this, now new offers are being submitted at the moment. However, we are dealing with ongoing purchase and sales which started before the lockdown. Where possible, and in accordance with Law Society of Scotland Guidance, we’re agreeing postponements to dates of entry. Buying or selling a house is stressful at the best of times. Accordingly, we’re doing what we can to support our clients in the present circumstances. If you are thinking of buying or selling when this is all over, please get in touch. Wills and Powers of Attorney
There has been an increased demand for our Wills and Power of Attorney services. Many clients have been in touch and we’re helping them and answering all their questions. We’re happy to take your instructions. We’ll explain everything to you and what’s involved. When we have these, we can prepare your Will and, if you want one, your Power of Attorney. We’ll send this to you for signature and explain the process to ensure these are properly signed.
